We are now active on three continents and in 14 countries. Our goal: to help as quickly and efficiently as possible. How does this work? Thanks to our partners in the countries where we are active! They speak the local language, are well connected, have important contacts and, above all, are on the ground. To get to know our so-called “Supporters on Site” better, we introduce them to you in our interview series.
One of them is Mohammed from Yemen. He is in charge of the soup kitchens and the tent school, which are financially supported by STELP.
STELP: Why don’t you briefly introduce yourself. Who are you and in which country are you working with STELP?
Mohammed: I am Mohammed Baza and I am the Supporter on Site of STELP in Yemen. I studied in Germany and then returned to my home country, Yemen.
STELP: What do you do for a living?
Mohammed: I am managing director and owner of the tour operator Cameleers Tours and at the same time producer for ARD German TV in Yemen. Since the war broke out in my country, tourists have stopped coming to my beautiful homeland. I mainly help ARD as a producer and with filming here in Yemen.
STELP: How did you come to work with STELP and how long have you been a “supporter on site”?
Mohammed: Some time ago, I was involved in a report about a needy boy that was broadcast on ARD. This led to a collaboration with the Future 4 Kids association in Germany, where we designed and initiated the soup kitchens together. The project manager started working at STELP some time later and then took the project there.
STELP: Why is your project so important to you?
Mohammed: In my home country, I belong to a still quite privileged social class. I’m pleased that I can use my resources to give something back to the people in Yemen and do something to combat poverty.
STELP: What kind of work do you enjoy most in your project?
Mohammed: When I feel that the hungry children in our soup kitchen are fed.
STELP: Do you have a life motto?
Mohammed: To make others happy, especially children in need.
