STELP is helping since
2023
Severe earthquakes shook parts of Turkey and Syria in early February. Thousands of people lost their homes and some were seriously injured. Over 50,000 people died in the rubble.
STELP was one of the first relief organizations to arrive in the crisis region less than 24 hours after the quakes and provided immediate aid. On site, we bought relief supplies such as blankets, water, baby food and tents and distributed them mainly in the Hatay and Gaziantep region.
“Chaos is becoming the norm,” said Serkan Eren. “Even though the attention will soon be gone, the suffering here will remain for a long time. Entire cities simply won’t exist anymore,” he reported.
In order to give people a safe roof over their heads again, STELP and its partners are building habitable container villages.
In Kahramanmaraş, the first is currently being built in cooperation with the world-renowned sports club Galatasaray Istanbul.
With playgrounds and sports fields, several rooms in the containers, private terraces and attractive outdoor areas, we give hope and a dignified life back to people who have fallen on hard times through no fault of their own.
Together with the ISS network, we have now started the construction of a multilingual daycare center for 100 children between the ages of one and six in Samandag. In addition to group rooms, there will also be a music room, a library, a studio, a workshop and quiet rooms. Unfortunately, obtaining approval for the building project took longer than originally planned. But now the site has been prepared, the essential infrastructure has been built and the foundation stone has been laid. We recently received the first pictures showing the struts of the outer walls. Construction is finally in full swing! A second daycare center is also already being planned.
