Namibia has made great progress in the education sector since its independence in 1990, but continues to struggle with significant challenges. Although education is officially free and compulsory up to seventh grade, many families cannot afford the cost of school uniforms, materials and transportation, which limits access. In rural areas in particular, there is a lack of schools and basic infrastructure such as sanitary facilities and electricity.
Children from marginalized communities, such as the San, and children with disabilities, who often have no access to inclusive education, are particularly disadvantaged. We therefore focus our projects in Namibia on the area of education.
