We have good news! About a year ago, we announced the launch of a new project, and now STELP will be involved in Bosnia and Herzegovina for at least another year to continue the project.
What happened so far?
In Bihac, a small town in northwestern Bosnia-Herzegovina, Mirsada Hodzic founded the association “Radosti Druzenja,” which translates as “Joy of Being Together.” There she has created a loving meeting place for adults and children with disabilities. A place of refuge for many: Children receive schooling there, adults are accompanied therapeutically.
After the birth of her own daughter, who was born with an mental disability, Mirsada experienced firsthand how little support she receives from the state. People with disabilities are still politically and socially disadvantaged almost everywhere in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is despite the fact that Bosnia and Herzegovina ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2010. We already reported on this last year, and not much has changed since then.
Successes of the last year
In the center, the psychologists and therapists have been able to make a lot of progress with the patients over the past year. But in order to offer the people a real perspective, there is still a lot of work ahead of the association. Therefore, STELP has decided to cover the fixed costs of the house for at least one more year so that the project can continue.
