The effects of the cruel Russian war of aggression are being felt all over the world. The countries that depend on Ukrainian wheat to supply their population are particularly suffering. According to the UN, the biggest humanitarian disaster currently taking place is in Yemen – far away from Europe and without much publicity. According to the German Federal Foreign Office, more than 21 million people are dependent on humanitarian aid in the country, which has been drained by years of war.
“In the beginning, we wanted to open our emergency kitchen three days a week. But because so many children and needy people were standing in front of our kitchen every day, we are now open on five days,” Mohammed told us. He is in charge of soup kitchens and tent schools financed by STELP on site in Sana’a. 2250 students normally go to school there and receive meals every day. But because of the summer holidays, the school and the soup kitchen had to close in the last few weeks.
Food prices have doubled
Food prices have more than doubled since last year, and wheat is in short supply due to the war in Ukraine. Because the famine is getting worse, we have set up an emergency kitchen together with our local partners. Every day, we can distribute up to 250 portions to children and adults suffering from hunger.
School starts again at the beginning of August, when the soup kitchens for the students and teachers open again. But a large part of the population must continue to starve. That’s why we need your support. Donate now to STELP with the subject “Yemen” and help us provide even more children with a meal.
