It’s been a few weeks since the vacations began in Yemen. For the pupils of seven schools in Sana’a, this also means that the daily hot meal, which many of them urgently need, is no longer available.
Immediately after the start of the summer vacations, Ramadan, i.e. the fasting period, began for many. Now this is also over, and we have lost no time in reopening our emergency kitchen. Especially at a time when the situation in Yemen continues to deteriorate, this is a life-saving measure in case of doubt.
The opening of the emergency kitchen was uncertain
A few days ago, the oil port of Ras Isa was destroyed by American airstrikes. 80 people were killed and over 150 injured. Millions of Yemenis are losing their economic basis as a result of the ongoing attacks – in a country that is already on the brink of the humanitarian abyss.
It is therefore all the more important that our emergency kitchen was able to reopen on time. Especially now, support for the local people must not stop. Despite the tense security situation, hot meals are now being prepared and distributed there every day.
Our emergency kitchen is a start – but the need is huge. Up to 250 portions of food are served every day so that at least some children and families don’t have to go hungry.
