The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel has been escalating visibly since 7 October 2023. Since Monday, however, the escalations have taken on new dimensions and the humanitarian situation has become even more acute: hundreds of people lost their lives on Monday alone.
STELP provides urgent relief supplies in Lebanon
Earlier this week, a village just a few hundred metres from the medical centre we support in Mjaydel was attacked. Our supporter on site Jad reports that people are desperately fleeing the affected areas in search of safety. According to official figures, over 100,000 people are currently fleeing from the south of Lebanon to the north, among other places. Some have been evacuated or have managed to get themselves to safety in shelters – e.g. in schools, which are now being used as emergency accommodation. But there is a shortage of almost everything: food, toiletries, mattresses, water.
As the escalation between Israel and Hamas had been feared to spread to Lebanon since the beginning of August, when STELP founder Serkan Eren was on site, he and Jad were able to pack around 300 food parcels, which are now being distributed in the Beirut region, where many people are fleeing to. However, the supply situation remains critical.
We are both happy and concerned about our supporter on site, Jad, who is on site and can coordinate the emergency aid project directly. With our support, he is currently procuring and distributing the most urgent relief supplies such as food, mattresses, hygiene articles and water. Especially in the current situation, every mattress, every nappy and every packet of rice counts.
Every donation helps us to offer people quick help and provide the necessary first aid in this emergency situation.
