The new year starts with a new aid mission: Serkan Eren, founder and first chairman of STELP, sets off for Yemen.
The mission is anything but safe due to the civil war raging in the country. Unlike in Ukraine, for example, there is no front line where two parties clash. The whole country is riddled with war and almost everyone carries a weapon.
Nevertheless, we consider the mission to be extremely important due to the catastrophic and ever worsening humanitarian situation. Together with our Supporter on Site Mohammed, Serkan will visit our projects in Sanaa and Dharawan and provide on-site support.
The current situation in the country
According to the Federal Foreign Office, over 21 million people in Yemen are dependent on humanitarian aid. More than 13.5 million children are threatened by famine, bombs and serious diseases. Hospitals, markets and schools are destroyed or closed in many places. In places where schooling still takes place, it is not unusual for children to be so weakened by lack of nutrition that they collapse again and again.
Our projects
Since 2019, we have been able to set up soup kitchens at seven schools in Sanaa, which currently provide around 2,000 schoolchildren and 90 teachers with a vital meal. In this way, we are not only making a contribution to providing children with the necessary nutrition, but also offering an incentive for parents to continue sending them to school.
In 2021, we were also involved in the construction of a tent school in Dharawan Camp, 48 km north of Sanaa, where up to 180 children now receive a school education and thus a perspective for the future.
Food prices have more than doubled since 2021, with wheat becoming scarce due to the war in Ukraine. As the famine continues to worsen, we have set up an emergency kitchen together with our local partners during the school vacations. Every day, we were able to distribute up to 250 portions to hungry children and adults.
Donate now
We are asking for donations to be able to provide the people on the ground with relief supplies. Every euro helps – every donation is used!
