It has been about a month since devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria claimed the lives of thousands of people. Countless were injured and left homeless. Around three million people have already left the affected regions. Many are still sleeping in tents, living in their cars or, in the worst case, even on the streets.
We would like to change that and as soon as possible!
For this reason, we are working with Turkish partners to build container villages that will offer those affected a safe place to stay in the near future. „The containers enable us to provide people with a weatherproof and, above all, as dignified as possible accommodation for the coming months and years. People can stay there until they can move into their own and, above all, earthquake-proof homes,” explains STELP founder Serkan Eren.
For STELP, the most important thing is that in addition to the housing containers, sufficient sanitary facilities, kitchens, washing containers, as well as psychological care and containers for child care and schools are built. „It is important that the children can go back to school as soon as possible and that at least a little normality returns to their everyday lives,” says Serkan Eren.
Right now we are still working with local authorities and our Turkish partners to go through all the paperwork and bureaucratic processes. „We are working flat out to ensure that people in Turkey will soon be able to move to the villages,” reports Serkan Eren.
