As part of the reconstruction of the areas affected by the earthquakes, the Stuttgart-based humanitarian aid organization STELP e. V. is working on a long-term basis with Galatasaray Istanbul, the world-renowned sports club. STELP founder and 1st board member Serkan Eren signed the cooperation agreement last Friday in Istanbul.
The aim of the joint cooperation is the rapid establishment of longer-term housing projects and further support for those affected in the earthquake regions.
“We are very happy that we now have such a strong partner in Turkey at our side. We bring the know-how in humanitarian aid, Galatasaray has an incredible network and has already done great things in the earthquake area. Galatasaray, as a world-renowned club, has important contacts and a local infrastructure that we can build on,” says STELP founder Serkan Eren.
Safe homes for people in Hatay
Together, the two associations want to ensure that the affected people in the Hatay region have a safe and long-term home, in a place that provides them with everything they need for the future and creates prospects for staying. For example, Galatasaray pays for the costs of the actual construction of the buildings and STELP provides support in the form of relief goods such as food, water, medical products and hygiene articles or in the form of assistance such as schooling and psychological support.
Galatasaray Sports Club President Dursun Aydın Özbek, Galatasaray Sports Club Vice President Niyazi Yelkencioğlu, STELP Chairman Serkan Eren and Galatasaray member and STELP volunteer Erkin Köksal attended the signing ceremony at Nef Stadium of Ali Sami Yen Sport Complex.
