Dharawan Camp, a tent settlement for internally displaced persons, is located near the Yemeni capital Sanaa and is now home to 520 families. We have also set up a tent school here, which provides schooling for up to 180 children. However, living conditions in the camp are harsh and the residents are dependent on help.
Our dedicated cookery crew from the STELP soup kitchens have therefore launched a collection campaign. The women collected used clothes from their neighbours to support the refugees in the Dharawan camp. Thanks to the generous donations, a whole carload of clothes was collected.
In the middle of the week, our Supporter on Site Mohammed visited the camp to distribute the collected donations to the refugees. In addition to the clothes, 500 sandwiches were also handed out. Mohammed reported the great joy and gratitude on the faces of the families.
Owning little, giving much
Our kitchen staff don’t have much themselves, but they share what little they have with their fellow human beings who are in even greater need. This campaign shows once again that community action can have a significant impact on the lives of those in need.
