On June 6, 2023, the Kakhovka Dam in Ukraine was destroyed, located in an area close to the front line on the Dnipro River near Kherson. Thousands of people and animals had to be evacuated because their homes were no longer safe. The effects on the lives of the local people and the environment are serious – the overall extent of the consequences cannot yet be concretely predicted.
Thanks to the generous donations as well as the quick support of our Ukrainian partners, especially TWMP, Ukraine Alive 2022 and Leo States, we were able to act quickly. In addition to food and clothing donations, boats and water pumps were financed. We provided thousands of people with clean drinking water and made it possible for people to start cleaning their homes and apartments by funding cleaning supplies.
In Mykolaiv, in the Romano-Bulgakovo district, our Ukraine Alive partners not only distributed water and hygiene products, but also gave stuffed animals to children in ten villages, bringing smiles to their faces. For a brief moment, they were able to just be kids again and forget all about their troubles.
Situation on site remains challenging
The situation on site remains challenging. Cleanup is ongoing and reconstruction will take time. The people who lost their homes still need support to rebuild a normal life.
Together we can help those who have lost everything and give them hope for the future. We are deeply grateful for your support.
