“When will all this come to an end?”
The situation in the northern region of Mozambique, Cabo Delgado, is precarious. Violence, kidnappings and the consequences of several tropical storms have dramatically worsened the situation in the region year after year. Over half a million people are currently considered displaced; their homes have been destroyed and their livelihoods lost. Many of them have nothing more than what they were wearing when they fled when armed IS groups attacked their villages.
In the rural region around Pemba, internally displaced families have erected makeshift huts made of old cardboard, empty flour and rice sacks and plastic, which offer no real protection from the rain and cold. Most people have been living here for years without any income and struggle to survive on a daily basis. On cold nights, they and their children freeze without blankets or mattresses. Many are desperate: “Our future is uncertain. When does this all come to an end?”
STELP helps locally by distributing food
A small STELP team was on site last week and, together with our local partners from Kuendeleya, distributed food to 250 vulnerable families. One package of food such as rice, maize flour, oil and brown sugar can feed a family for about a month. We are grateful that we can help people with your donations.
