In May 2024, severe flooding in Burundi caused widespread destruction. Entire regions were submerged, and many families lost their livelihoods. Together with our partner organizations Kaz’O’zah and SEZ Baden-Württemberg, we were able to quickly provide emergency aid and support those affected directly on the ground.
But our assistance did not end with the immediate disaster. Together with Kaz’O’zah, we support families—and women in particular—as they build new prospects for the future and promote sustainable development in the affected communities. Close collaboration with local partners is crucial in this effort: they understand the people’s needs and the challenges on the ground, and can provide support exactly where it is needed.
A particular focus is on supporting education. Together, we are providing school kits for 1,220 children. The kits include backpacks, uniforms, books, writing supplies, geometry sets, and calculators. For many families, these supplies are financially out of reach, yet they are essential for attending school and securing long-term educational opportunities.
