The situation in the Yemeni capital Sanaa is tense. Last week, Israeli air strikes repeatedly hit oil facilities and a major power plant. For the local population, this means renewed power cuts and great uncertainty. Everyday life is becoming increasingly difficult, with thousands of families living in constant fear of further attacks in their immediate vicinity.
Tent schools offer children safe access to education
Our educational projects in Dharawan Camp, not far from the capital Sanaa, are currently able to continue despite the attacks. Since 2021, we have been working to support internally displaced children in the camp. Together with our supporter on site, we have enabled the construction of two tent schools – one for grades 1–4 and another for grades 5 and 6. We also finance the salaries of two teachers and a guard who ensures the safety of the schoolchildren.
Despite the difficult circumstances in the country, access to education for the children in the camp remains secure. Classes continue, the students have a safe place to learn, and thus gain important prospects for their future.
