For over 20 years, the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo have suffered from recurring political conflicts, armed violence, and widespread insecurity. In the eastern part of the country in particular, displacement, poverty, and the struggle for access to basic services define the daily lives of many people. Approximately five million people (UN, 2025) are internally displaced—including countless families who often had to flee their homes in a hurry and possess little more than what they can carry.
For children, this reality means a daily life marked by fear, hunger, and uncertainty. Many grow up in an environment where safety, stability, and a carefree childhood are not a given. School, play, community, and reliable caregivers are repeatedly pushed to the background by displacement and violence.
The youngest children, in particular, are suffering from the current situation—both physically and mentally. Experiences of violence, loss, and displacement leave scars that extend far beyond the immediate moment. This makes projects that offer children safe spaces, psychosocial support, and new perspectives all the more important.
