In recent years, Kenya has been experiencing repeated periods of prolonged drought. The soil is drying out, crops are failing, and the livelihoods of many self-sufficient families are under serious threat. Since October 2025, the north of the country has once again been in the grip of severe drought.
Our local partner organization MCSPA is working on the ground to mitigate the effects of this drought. We have provided financial support for their distributions so that essential goods such as corn, beans, rice, sugar, oil, water, and cooked meals reach the places where they are most urgently needed.
To ensure that aid reached the most vulnerable people, vulnerable groups were specifically identified and registered, including older people, pregnant and breastfeeding women, widows, and orphans. In total, the MCSPA team was able to reach around 900 people.
The drought is causing further problems
A crucial part of the work went beyond mere provision of aid: since resource scarcity often leads to tensions, targeted conflict resolution and peacebuilding measures strengthened dialogue and cohesion within the community. In this way, the MCSPA team ensures that the aid not only alleviates hardship, but also stabilizes the social fabric.
