Following the severe unrest around Uvira in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, things have calmed down somewhat recently. Yet the conflict with the M-23 rebels, which has been ongoing since 2021, continues to have repercussions—and is hitting the civilian population hardest: Many families have been displaced and had to flee their homes in a hurry, often without being able to take their belongings with them. Many are currently living in schools, churches, or with host families, under extremely precarious conditions, without enough food, clothing, or access to hygiene supplies. What remains is uncertainty, and for many, quite literally: not enough to eat.
That is precisely why we support our partners at CEAFPD (Centre d’Encadrement et d’Appui en Faveur des Personnes Démunies), who carry out vital on-the-ground distributions of food and other essentials to particularly vulnerable, displaced families. We deliberately work with local partners because they know the situation best: they know where the needs are greatest and which families are particularly vulnerable.
You can help us continue to make these emergency aid distributions possible.
